If you’re running your business from the middle of chaos—
kids asking for snacks, deadlines creeping up, or recording a podcast episode in your pajamas at 3 a.m.—you’re not alone. Seriously, you’re in good company. I mean, I just recorded this podcast episode from a hotel bed in my PJs. Why? Because life happens. And guess what? It doesn’t mean you’re bad at time management or that you don’t have your act together. It just means you’re human. None of that takes away from the fact that you’re building something incredible. And guess what? Every moment of this journey is part of your self-development.
Life is full. Sometimes, it’s beautifully full of things we’ve chosen, and other times, it feels like everything hits at once. I get it. Maybe you had your week planned perfectly, but then your kid got sick, a work deadline shifted, or—if you’re like me—you’re suddenly dealing with soaking your bearded dragon in an iodine bath because she got stuck and injured her tail. (True story. Shoutout to Sandy, the unexpected love of my life.)
Your Business Is Legit—Even If It Feels Chaotic
Don’t let society’s outdated ideas of what “real” work looks like make you feel less than. Just because you’re finding time to work between school drop-offs and after-school snacks doesn’t mean you’re any less capable. In fact, moms are masters of squeezing productivity into the smallest pockets of time—self-development at its finest.
You’re Allowed to Go Slow (Because Life Is Full)
I know it’s easy to feel behind—like you should be further along or getting things done faster. But guess what? It’s okay to go slow. You have a family, responsibilities, and a life outside of your business. Of course, you’re not cranking out projects like someone with zero interruptions. That doesn’t make you less dedicated—it makes you a human balancing multiple roles and growing through self-development along the way.
Self-Development Happens When You Least Expect It
Spoiler alert: Nobody has it all together. Not even people who seem like they do. And if you’ve been telling yourself that you need to be more organized, more productive, or more “on top of things” to be successful—let that go. The world might not always get what you do, but that doesn’t make your work any less valuable. You get it. I get it. And that’s what matters.
Business Is the Best Self-Development Course You Didn’t Sign Up For
Running a business has a funny way of holding up a mirror to all our limiting beliefs and mindset struggles. Suddenly, you’re not just building a business—you’re learning to believe in yourself, to get past self-doubt, and to show up even when things feel messy. And that’s a good thing. Business is one of the best tools for self-development, not just financially but personally. Every challenge, pivot, and messy moment is shaping you into a more resilient, confident version of yourself.
