Conceiving

When I became a mom, I knew almost immediately that "being a mom" wasn't going to be enough for me, and I felt deeply guilty.

I decided to write a book when my son was 2 and I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter. I didn't have a following or consistent income. A lot of people said writing a book was just another thing that would fail, but I knew I had to do it. In 2015 I self-published BossMom and it hit #1 New Release in 3 different categories.

At the same time, we launched the BossMoms Facebook group and the BossMom Podcast. What I didn't realize was how many of us were out there, feeling that same pull and that same guilt. We secured the registered trademark, turned it into a business, and hit six figures within 8 months.

The big lesson: Craving more isn't about being unfulfilled by motherhood. It's human nature to seek impact, respect and growth. Just keep trying, don't stop, and one day it will all start working.

Toddler Years

Once BossMom started seeing success, I made it a point to show up consistently in the Facebook group. The first person I hired was a member of the group who pitched me for podcast appearances, just two hours a week, and for that first year I was on at least one podcast a week.

I'll never forget the moment I realized the potential of an online business. The group had grown to about 8,000 members, and during a birthday sale I went rock climbing. When I came home, we had made $10,000 on a $47 product. That moment changed everything.

Soon after, I launched the BossMom Academy and the Raising Your Business course. My next milestone was my first $30,000 month. It was mind-blowing at the time.

The big lesson: Constant disruptions are a part of being a mom. When you accept them, you'll realize just how much you can get done in those in-between moments and still reach your goals.

The Tweens

While BossMom was growing, life threw some serious challenges my way. In 2018 I went through a divorce, and my dad passed away after a long illness. BossMom struggled, and so did I. That same season we launched our membership and group coaching program.

In 2020 we launched Nurture to Convert®, our proprietary marketing system. Then the pandemic hit. I was in a one-bedroom apartment with a 4 and 6 year old doing remote learning. It was one of the hardest years of my life, and BossMom actually did really well, because all the moms were home too, looking for each other.

The big lesson: As your family and business grow, it's natural for your priorities to change. Embrace the evolution, and don't be afraid to make big shifts that fit your new desires or needs.

Now

In 2024 we made the biggest decision in BossMom's history: we shut down the free Facebook group with over 75,000 members and built our own home for our moms, the BossMom app.

That same year, someone close to me was diagnosed with cancer, my family and I got mold poisoning, and a very long-term relationship ended. So I stepped back. I didn't work to grow anything; I took fractional CMO work and took care of us. In 2025 we split Nurture to Convert® and BossMom into two separate companies so each could grow on its own.

Now, in 2026, I'm back, building BossMom and Nurture to Convert® in a really big way. I've separated my identity from BossMom, and as my kids become teenagers, I'm exploring who I am all over again. BossMom is going to grow. Nurture to Convert® is growing as a system, an agency and a certification. And I have dreams I'm not even sure how to map out yet.

The biggest shift wasn't a strategy. It was the work I've done to fully love and accept myself. I saw how much I had built out of fear of not being good enough or not being loved, and how that made me a hypervigilant doer. Letting that go showed me a business that feels so much lighter. (And AI has made my life easier in ways I never imagined.)

The big lesson: When you stop building from fear of not being enough, everything gets lighter. The inner work is the business work.
