Okay, I have to tell you this story. I was hosting one of our Boss Mom+ networking events recently, something we do every other week, and our topic was celebrating wins.

And guess what?
Almost no one showed up.

I’m not even kidding. This has never happened before. These networking events are always full. But that day? Crickets.

And I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony. The one topic that’s about celebrating ourselves… and we suddenly all have “other things” to do.

The Real Point of Our Networking Events

Now, if you’ve never been to one of our Boss Mom+ networking events, they’re not your typical “what do you do and who do you serve” kind of rooms.

We pick a theme that helps us connect as humans first, business owners second.

Because when we get vulnerable… when we say, “Oh my gosh, I deal with that too!” that’s when real friendships, collaborations, and connections happen.

That’s when you find people who get you. Not just because they might hire you, but because you share the same season of life, the same goals, the same messy, beautiful chaos.

What Happened When Only a Few Women Showed Up

So there we were, a tiny group of women, and instead of pretending it was no big deal, I leaned in.

We ended up having this deep, incredible conversation. It felt more like a coaching session than a networking event.

And as we were talking, I realized something so powerful that I knew I had to bring it here to the Boss Mom Podcast and share it with everyone.

The Two Habits That Quietly Sabotage Every Mom in Business

I see this pattern over and over again, both in my clients and in myself (because let’s be honest—I’ve lived these lessons too).

There are two ways we unintentionally sabotage our growth as mom entrepreneurs:

1. “As soon as I ___, I’ll finally ___.”

You know what I mean:

  • As soon as I make more money, I’ll take time off.

  • As soon as the kids are older, I’ll focus on my business.

  • As soon as I get organized, I’ll start showing up online.

We put life—and joy—on pause. We keep waiting for the “right” moment to do the things that would actually change our life now.

2. “I don’t want ___.”

This one’s sneakier. We say things like:

  • “I don’t want employees.”

  • “I don’t want to be too busy.”

  • “I don’t want to manage people.”

But here’s the truth: most of the time when we say “I don’t want that,” it’s not because we don’t want it… it’s because we’re scared of it.

We think it’s too big, too hard, too complicated, or that we don’t deserve it.

And that fear keeps us small.

Why Moms Default to Doing It All

Here’s what I see over and over again, we moms convince ourselves that it’s just easier if we do everything ourselves.

Easier to clean the kitchen than argue about who’s turn it is.
Easier to stay up late working than to train a VA.
Easier to just handle it than to delegate.

But it’s not easier.

It’s exhausting.
It’s unsustainable.
And it’s the fastest way to burn out your energy, your joy, and your bank account.

Because here’s the reality:
There is no scalability when you’re the one doing everything.

The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

Let me say this loud and clear:

Your future dictates today.

Not the other way around.

What you want in the future should determine what you do right now, not the tasks, not the to-do list, not the chaos of the day.

Because when you know exactly what you want, you start making decisions that align with it.

When you avoid dreaming big, you’ll spend your days doing work that doesn’t actually move you forward.

How to Start Thinking Like a CEO

There’s a simple framework I love (and I wish I’d learned years ago):

Start – Stop – Continue – Delegate

It’s like a weekly check-in for your business.

  • Start doing things that move you toward visibility, showing up, pitching, promoting, being seen.

  • Stop doing things that drain you or keep you busy without impact.

  • Continue the things that actually work (you’d be surprised how many of us forget to double down on those).

  • Delegate what you’ve mastered. Document it, train someone, and hand it off so you can focus on the next level.

If you don’t start thinking about how to delegate now, you’ll never build the systems that allow you to actually let go later.

Dream Bigger Than You’re Comfortable With

Most moms in business think they’re dreaming big when they say, “I just want to make enough to quit my job” or “I just want to replace my income.”

But that’s not dreaming, that’s surviving.

What if you said…
“I want to build a team of amazing women.”
“I want financial independence.”
“I want a household name brand.”

Say it. Own it. Write it down.

You can’t create a strategy for a dream you’re afraid to admit.

Why Community Matters So Much

The truth is, we’re not meant to do this alone.

That’s why Boss Mom+ exists. It’s not just a membership; it’s a closed ecosystem of women building real businesses and hiring each other.

You don’t have to scroll the internet to find your next VA, copywriter, or strategist. They’re already in your community.

And that’s how we all rise together. The rising tide really does lift all boats.

Try This Exercise

Take 15 minutes this week and do this:

  1. Name your biggest future vision.
The honest, expansive version, not the one that feels “realistic.”

  2. List what you’re doing today.
    Write every recurring task.

  3. Mark each as Start, Stop, Continue, or Delegate.
Pick one thing to start delegating this month.

That’s how you begin shifting from doing it all to building something that lasts.

What to do next…

If you’ve been stuck in the cycle of “I’ll get to it later” or “I don’t really want that,” I hope this episode reminds you of what’s possible.

You don’t need to earn the right to dream big.
You just need to decide that your future dictates today.

Now go grab a notebook, write down what you really want, and start making decisions that match it.

And if you want to go deeper into these conversations with me, join us inside Boss Mom+.

We’ve built a space where you can celebrate your wins, share your truth, and connect with other women who actually get it.

I heart your face,
Dana
